"What
is the BEST pinpointer?" A common question. Here you can learn...
..all about PINPOINTERS.
Preface: Electronic pinpointers
come into play after locating the target initially with your metal
detector. They can decrease the time of target recovery tremendously,
helping you dig more good targets in a shorter period of time... and
with less digging (less mess!).
Adjustable pulse timing to prevent cross-talk and increase sensitivity
over small items
Manual tuning/threshold adjustment
Excellent depth on coins and 3+ grain nuggets
Larger than average
Wide grip, less comfortable than others
Full time audio, manual audio low, high, silent with LED target
light
Comments: this is the deepest of the probes. It needs a vibrate mode,
VCO, or gradient audio like the Garrett has as you close in on the
target. Detector Pro also makes a Uni-Probe which DOES have that gradient
audio approach at $279.95. That probe can convert into a full blown
pulse detector. Also: Uniprobe Headphones... they incorporate the
same circuitry to bring you a high quality Detector Pro headphone
set at $349.95.

Dirt resistant on/off button switch replaced older toggle Bullseye
I
Audio mode
Bright white LED illuminates hole... also works well for Night
Hawks and locating fallen or left tools in the grass
Comfortable fit in your hand
Minimum depth
VLF circuit
Adjustable sensitivity
Comments: the Bullseye II is frequently included with White's seasonal
specials or mail in offers. Most of my customers own this pinpointer.
It has a moderate price point and although it is not deep, is has adequate
performance. Once you set the audio level, operation is very simple
and automatic. Audio and vibrate rocker switch in 9 Volt battery compartment.
White's
distributors/local dealers have been replacing Bullseye II's that don't
hold up to the abuse as some users like to force that probe into the
soil to find the target. Many of my customers eventually upgrade to
a Garrett Pro Pointer or a Detector Pro Pistol Probe.

Comments:
the
580 has been just introduced and replaces the shorter lived 570. Like
the 560, it is unique and you can submerge it under water which makes
it ideal to use at the splash line in lakes such as Lake Tahoe, or at
waters edge.

Comments: vibrate mode can cause occasional failure when unit is always
left on. It can go off constantly due to contact with treasure pouch/metal
targets, so it is best to turn it off when not in use. The lifetime warranty
on this unit is the strongest warranty available. It does have a higher
than average on false signaling. When tuner is turned down enough, false
signaling can be reduced. This unit ground balances like a small
metal detector such as for instance the Falcon Series.
Rating by Big Valley:
Loud audio and vibrate simultaneous signal; place thumb over micro/speaker
to semi-mute
Scraper blade... works great in bark
Increasing gradient audio response; gives you an accurate sense
of how close you are to target
Depth is excellent but falls short of the leader: Pistol Probe
Comments: you can't turn off audio but overall #1 in my book due to its
gradient target acquisition, which works like a Geiger counter...the beats
increase until you are about 1/2" away and then flat lines. About 3x depth
of Bullseye II, Fisher FP. In depth it is surpassed only by the
probes of Sun Ray and Detector Pro.

by Big Valley:
Integrates with detectors circuit through on/off switch box
NO cross talk
Adds a little weight to the detector
Durable construction, tips now in black
Excellent depth
Limited to certain makes/models but preferred by Minelab owners
Comments: Proprietary to the model(s) it is built for. The DX-1
as an example works ONLY on the Whites DFX, M6, MXT and will not work
on other detectors. This pinpointer is popular with owners of Minelab,
Whites, Garrett and Fishers. Not made for Chinese- and other off-brand
detectors.
